The PlayStation 5's white outer shell can be easily removed from the console. It's yet to be officially confirmed, but the theory is that we'll be able to replace the default casing with different coloured or patterned faceplates in the future. We wouldn't be surprised to see Sony flogging all kinds of custom panels down the line, but a third party outfit looks to have beaten them to the punch.
PlateStation 5 is a website offering a handful of alternate colour faceplates for your PS5, and its products are available to pre-order and purchase right now. If you're not a fan of the white casing, you can go here and select from a few different options, shown off with some 3D renders displaying the console equipped with various colours. At the time of writing, you can choose from red, blue, camo, chrome, and of course, black. They're all available in standard and digital edition sizes, too.
The custom faceplates will set you back $40, but we're sure plenty of people will pay up to have a PS5 in their favourite colour. There's no guarantee that Sony will offer official variations, so PlateStation 5 is your best bet for now.
Having said that, the company is extremely new, set up days ago, so there's no track record to speak of. We'd be careful about splashing cash at this stage, but if the business follows through with decent products, it could be a good option.
Anyway, what do you think of these unofficial custom faceplates? Which colour would you want to put on your PS5? Are you happy with white, or will you be forking out for a different style? Give us your thoughts in the comments section below.

This is Awesome!!
I'll wait for a special edition face plate.
I’ll wait for an official one. These look good though.
This looks good, I hope sony make official colored version though, I want psone classic faceplate
I like the white, and it matches my furniture thankfully, but the ability to customise is a good thing. Not sure I would trust a company to get the exact dimensions and shape correct before release though - I mean, have they actually managed to get their hands on a faceplate from a factory or something? Wouldn’t surprise me, but also wouldn’t risk it pre release.
Hope they do bring out some official ones sooner than later.
I want a Zelda themed faceplate on one side and a Halo themed on the other. This way it will scream "PlayStation"
Bacon theme please... feeling classy
Black 🖤 good! 😱
Not sure why they chose to display the new colours against a background of the same colour... they really don't stand out.
I'm sure there will be some good options eventually, but the 3D renders of these (as opposed to physical photos) and awful eye for design with the matching backgrounds make me think this probably isn't the company to go for. Will wait and see. Would rather pay a slight premium for a well made and finished replacement.
I imagine Sony will announce something about official ones at some point. We havent had our weekly drip of information yet. Although im more interested in them confirming how to get the camera adaptor to be honest.
Gunna wait on some official ones as these don't have the ps logo on them
I am almost certain that interchangeable face plates was Sony's plan from the beginning. I am calling it now they will sell themed controllers bundled with themed faceplates. Just you wait
Question is whether they will sell special editions separately, or lock them behind a PS5 purchase. I hope it's the former, they'd be stupid not to sell them separately, but I can see some exclusive face plates that are only available if you buy a new system.
I'd be interested why you need to have your ps5 in camo. Do you intend to play it while hunting and don't want to spook your prey? Don't you need a camo tv then too? Doesn't your white dualsense need to be covered by a camo blanket because its not in camo?
So many questions.
@Party_Cannon
There's a camo one? I haven't seen it. 😉
Is a scam
Website is only 14 days old and they using cheap godaddy accout.
They wouldn't have dimensions of the inner side of the panels.
Would love to see some wraps for faceplates too
@Fred_Red I'd say that's harsh just because it's a go daddy website. Small businesses need to start somewhere. Plus you can check out with PayPal so you are protected.
It'll likely be renders just now until they get exact dimensions.
Here's hoping Sony do official ones soon enough so those of us who want a black console can get one.
If the only way to get an Azur Lane faceplate is to go unofficial, I'm okay with that.
The Matt black one looks great. I dislike the white so much I’d buy these, even while I just wait until official Sony ones.
I wonder if sony really thought this through.
Its only a matter of time before someone completely changes the shape of the ps5 with these clip on plates.
You could literally turn your ps5 into anything
They do look fantastic, no way I'm ordering from that site after poking around a bit though. I'm sure there will be a huge market for these shortly after release so no rush
Oh wow, I'm keeping my eye on cheap Chinese ones in matte black. Yes please!
@Weebleman
I wouldn’t count on Sony announcing anything pre release. Can you imagine the ***** storm of people complaining they are putting the black colour behind a paywall as they supposedly know everyone wants black?! Just bad PR. They’ll probably give it a few months.
@thefourfoldroot Ha! Fair point very well made
What about wrapping films? They are quite cheap and come in many interesting colours: chrome, matte black, gloss carbon...
Ordered the matte black one. I was going to skip it, but they have free shipping so feck it. Why not?
Hopefully they make some Belkin ones to give it the full on gigantic router look.
Face plates to expect in the coming months and years:
Naked women posing in various suggestive positions
Gun themed faceplates, Desert Eagle pistol or a assault riffle
Cannabis plant
American Eagle on a American Flag background
@BusyOlf MAGA ones for the hillbillys.
Need the spiderman one ..thats was belting
@Ratmonger9 It would be mad cool to get custom plates and controllers that match them... I dig it...
@donnyPS5 I actually think thats a good thing though... Although due to 3d printing more and more people can custom print it themselves, it also opens the door for all sorts of shapes to the side panels. I think awesome things can come from that.
@Whately86 I agree. the age of personalisation is now.
Lets hope 3d printing resin holds up as a usable material for side panels.
All the dodgy concept art versions of the ps5 could become a reality
The 'chromatic' one has my name on it... I just have to change my name to Chromatic.
Just imagine what is going to be possible once people get the official details of the plates and start doing 3D prints compatible with the system...
Ordered matte black set. If the product is shoddy, oh well, I’m just out $40 bucks. Also have some custom skins coming for the white faceplates, so I’ll be covered either way.
Oh wow, was hopping these pop up on ETSY.
How I finally got my stand for the StarFOX toy in Battle for Atlas. Someone with a 3D printer just started making them
Love this! If these actually work I may have to consider them. 😅
Spawnwave mentioned these on his youtube channel yesterday and plans to do a video on these when the ps5 is out. His teardowns are good, so may be worth watching his take on it if you are on the fence
Will the PS5 function with NO faceplates? Anyone know?
@Ridwaano this has killed me😂💀💀
@jamberino93
@rykkchii good shout. Im sure someone will try in a few weeks. I am assuming that the plates are in someway essential for connecting the ps5 stand properly. But otherwise i would assume you could go without them.
@Rob_230 Yeah, Im very interested to find out.. meanwhile Ive ordered the chrome and matt black ones
Will wait until there’s been actual deliveries of these but I do like the black, red and chrome ones!
I wouldn't be promoting this place unless you can confirm the validity of what they're offering.
Whoever set this up either illegally obtained a system to take molds from so they could produce these, they're pre-orders for a product that doesn't exist yet, or it's a scam.
Considering this place popped up out of nowhere, I'm gonna go with scam.
They do look great but I have no problem with waiting for reviews on them; also for some info from Sony, or a developer, on if they plan to release official ones. I want to know if these off-brand ones snap to the console in a satisfying way and how the finish is on them.
The red looks great though and if there's no word from Sony by mid January i'll definitely look into them!
@Boxmonkey was thinking the same but that chrome one looks dope. U can't got wrong with chrome. But im wanting to see if a ragnarok or a even a black spiderman one will come. Hears hoping anyways. But 40 bucks is pretty sweet also.
I will probably buy some third party plates IF Sony don't sell plates themselfs?
I would hold fire on buying any of these plates till you know they fit AND are good quality? You dont want to spend $40 for plates that dont click in place OR snap because its cheap plastic
Yeah, I'd wait to see how it affects the system (heat) and general plate quality. They don't even have a PS5 to look at, so I'm suspicious.
They should do a camouflaged themed one.
@Woogy I know! The chrome one made me wish that’s the colour Sony went for...
Am I the only one that recalls that Sony sold faceplates for the “original” PS4?
@Wormold
On their twitter, they’ve been answering these questions. The plates are not 3D Printed, made from industry standard plastic. They will also be ensuring proper fit and dimensions upon having a unit on hand prior to shipping any sets to consumers but Sony did already provide the dimensions to them. I mean, SkinIt has the dimensions to make form fitting skins already, just like most accessory makers get dummy units or dimension outlines prior to product releases to ensure stuff fits properly.
If Sony made the whole potential for interchangeable plates possible on purpose, I fail to see how the warranty will be voided unless one improperly removes/installs the plates (and damages the console) or sends a unit back for repairs and doesn’t put the original plates back on.
So, on that note, I don’t see why the site can’t share the news about the product. The makers already claim the plates are unofficial and many people have clearly expressed wishing to customize their systems given many are not impressed with the base color scheme alone, so 3rd party accessories and plates are going to be a huge market
Chrome!!! Just like i wanted!!! (but never expected)
@Fred_Red..... Thanks for this Alert and @PushSquare should remove this from their site.....
In the photos they look like cheap products to be honest.
I'll keep waiting for official faceplates to surface, but those do look good.
How about a faceplate with cupholders? Or a faceplate where you can hang headsets, store games and controllers etc.
Man... look how sexy the PS5 looks all black with those blue lights.
I really dislike how they put the white in there. It really ruined it in terms of looks for me.
As expected the site is now nowhere to be found, really hope not too many people order from them... :/
